Time With His People

Junior is back home in Rwanda this stretch of the Love All journey, and this week he made space for something that doesn’t show up in any training log: his friends. “It’s a great week here, hanging out with my friends, trying to reconnect and build strong chemistry before the tournament next week,” he said. After a year training at the Mouratoglou Academy in France, being home again means picking back up the relationships that distance had put on pause.

Chemistry Is a Skill, Too

“We’re trying to spend more time together and have fun with different activities, getting ready for the tournament next week,” Junior said. It’s easy to picture tournament prep as purely physical, reps, footwork, film study. Junior’s week is a reminder that the bonds built off the court matter just as much: the trust and composure a group feels long before it’s ever tested under pressure, and the kind of steadiness that doesn’t show up until it’s needed most.

What’s Waiting at Home

Next week’s tournament is on Junior’s home ground in Rwanda, the country where he first picked up a racket at seven years old, and he knows exactly what that means. “We’re ready to give our best and bring a good performance at home,” he said. That’s the full-circle moment the Love All Scholarship was always building toward, and exactly what Pillar 1 of the Kodjoe Family Foundation’s mission is designed to protect: a scholar who left Kigali for the Mouratoglou Academy, and who’s now back, competing on home soil with the people who’ve been with him from the start.
