Sidney Jones: Rising Star and Love All Scholarship Recipient
“Tennis found me when I was about eight years old. After the first lesson, that was it — I never looked back.”
Meet Sidney Jones, a 19-year-old tennis player from Los Angeles, California, whose dedication and talent are propelling her toward a bright future in the sport she loves. This year, Sidney became a proud recipient of the Love All Scholarship, a program created by the Kodjoe Family Foundation to expand access and opportunity for Black youth in tennis.
A Journey Fueled by Passion
Sidney’s relationship with tennis began at a young age. What started as a simple introduction quickly turned into a lifelong passion. By the time she was eight years old, she knew she had found her sport.
Now, during her gap year, Sidney has committed herself fully to tennis — training, refining her skills, and building the mindset required to compete at the highest levels.
The Impact of the Love All Scholarship
For Sidney, receiving the Love All Scholarship was more than just financial support — it was a turning point.
“When I found out that I got the scholarship, I was really excited to have a choice of what I could do with the next year of my life. It has allowed me to take multiple lessons every week. Knowing that you’re going to be working with a coach that you’ve consistently worked with is huge.”
With consistent coaching and structured training, Sidney has seen her game grow in every aspect.
Her serve is stronger.
Her baseline game is sharper.
Her confidence is soaring.
As one of her coaches notes, “She’s definitely playing the tennis to play at the highest level of the sport.”
Looking Ahead
Sidney’s journey is just beginning. Her goal for the upcoming year is clear:
“Next year, I plan to attend a D1 college and play tennis on the team.”
The scholarship has not only given her the resources to train like a collegiate athlete but also the belief that, in her own words, “the sky’s the limit when it comes to tennis.”
